Wide Area Radio Solution for Materials Recovery and Recycling
1 The Customer
Redgate Holdings Limted is a waste management and recycling contractor based in Manchester. Their materials recovery facility processes over 75,000 tonnes of material per year.
2 The Problem
Redgate Holding require two-way radio communications to allow groups of staff to stay informed of daily work duties in and around the recycling yard and for the fleet of thirty vehicles operating in and around the Greater Manchester area.
The company was using an old analogue radio system that was not fit for purpose. The old equipment was failing on a regular basis and the radio coverage was unreliable with the quality of the transmissions being very poor.
James (the owner) also didn’t like the fact that the analogue transmissions were not private and secure and people from outside of the business could eavesdrop on messages between his staff.
3 The Solution
Having looked at all of the available options, James decided to continue to use two-way radios but decided to upgrade to a Motorola digital solution. Although the mobile phone option was financially attractive, there were too many negative objections such as drivers and yard workers not answering calls, lost phones, the stringent mobile phone laws whilst driving and the fact that only one person can be contacted at any one time.
4 The Result
The Motorola digital radio solution provides crystal clear communications covering the whole of Redgate Holdings working area and also enables the yard workers to contact the vehicles when tipping at the yard. The fixed cost aspect of digital radio together with the crystal clear encrypted transmissions allowing all workers to be in instant contact provides the best possible solution.
Other benefits include:
- instant contact to the whole fleet of vehicles
- yard workers can communicate with vehicles entering the yard
- drivers can help each other locate customer site locations
