Lancashire County Cricket Club
1 The Customer
Our customer, Lancashire County Cricket Club has been home to various fixtures during the 2019 World Cup Cricket. They will also be hosting the 4th test match in the Ashes series in early September 2019.
2 The Problem
The Cricket Club and their security contractor G4S were in need of digital heldheld radios to hire during larger events. When they have T20 fixtures, concerts, World Cup Cricket and international cricket fixtures they needed a solution to be able to expand their current day-to-day system to cope with the voice traffic.
3 The Solution
Last year DCS were brought in to expand their current Motorola Capacity plus system which has 2 x Motorola SLR5500’s repeaters to cope with the voice traffic for ten user talk groups and over 250 handheld radios for these sporting events and concerts that they stage.
The radios supplied on hire are all configured utilising Lancashire County Crickets Club’s on-site digital system installed and maintained by DCS which provides the voice capacity and coverage required for these high-profile sporting events.
They use radios for the day-to-day events with a mixture of Motorola SL4000e and Motorola DP4400e digital handheld radios. They also needed around 200 additional hire units (DP4400e) to provide the additional staff with communications to successfully host and provide security for the larger profile sporting events/concerts.
- The SL4000e is a more sophisticated radio than the DP4400.
- The SL4000e is feature rich and is capable of individual/group call functionality, has Bluetooth built-in and is configured to scan different departments which helps the client to receive voice traffic from different departments as the customer has ten different channels/talk groups set up.
- The DP4400e is a non-display radio that offers superb reliability, excellent coverage and great audio quality, ideal for group call functionality.
4 The Result
For Infrastructure – Radio Coverage/Voice Capacity they purchased 2 x Motorola SLR5500 UHF repeater base station configured with capacity pus, Procom aerial combining unit and external aerial to provide radio coverage.
In terms of handheld radios for day to day use, they use their own supply of 20 x SL4000e and 40 x DP4400e radios. For larger, high profile events they hired 220 x Motorola DP4400e handheld radios complete with earpieces and chargers.
